Let’s talk toast! It’s one of the simplest breakfast foods or snacks to make, but we often slap on butter or jam and call it a day. Am I right? Today I’m showing you an easy and nutritious way to elevate it in minutes. Ready to make this delicious strawberry cream cheese toast?

Of course, the combination of toasted artisan bread topped with smooth and salty cream cheese is always a good foundation. When you go a little further and top it off with sweet strawberries, a drizzle of honey and sprinkle of fragrant lemon thyme, something magical happens. This toast is everything you want it to be and more!

One of the reasons you’ll love this toast recipe so much is that it really isn’t a recipe at all. Honestly, it’s nearly impossible to go awry unless you’re known for burning toast (like my husband). Once you get that part down, it’s slather, layer, drizzle, top, then bite!

Okay, ready? If you’ve never tasted cream cheese toast before, you’re in for a real treat. I hope you try it and love it as much as I do. Breakfast, brunch, lunch or snack, it’s totally satisfying!

How to Make Strawberry Cream Cheese Toast

About the Ingredients

  • Bread – Freshly baked whole grain or crusty artisan bread are best (for taste and to hold up to weight of toppings). You could also use sourdough bread.
  • Cream Cheese – Use your favourite spreadable or whipped cream cheese (I prefer Arla organic).
  • Strawberries – Select the freshest and ripest strawberries for best flavour.
  • Honey – Your favourite natural honey will add a bit of sweetness.
  • Lemon Thyme – It’s pretty and fragrant, while adding a hint of natural earthiness and lemon flavour. (I love growing and using herbs.)

Toast Instructions

Step one: Toast sliced bread to your liking.

Step two: Apply a generous layer of cream cheese over entire top.

Step three: Slice strawberries and arrange over cream cheese.

Step four: Drizzle strawberries with honey.

Step five: Garnish with fresh lemon thyme leaves.

As you can see, there’s no measuring required for this easy strawberry toast recipe.

    Strawberry Cream Cheese Toast Tips

    • Have dietary restrictions? For gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan toast, substitute bread and cream cheese with your favourite alternatives.
    • Use full-fat cream cheese or light depending on your preference. For block cream cheese, bring to room temperature before spreading.
    • Creamed or liquid honey? Any honey will work. You can even try infused or flavoured honey.
    • Can’t find lemon thyme? Use a combination of regular thyme and lemon zest instead. Fresh basil or mint work well with strawberries too.
    • Can this toast be made ahead of time? I prefer making it right before eating so the toast is warm, but it tastes good cold too. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for a day or two.
    • Don’t have fresh strawberries? Fresh blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and peaches are delicious too. Play around with various toppings to create a favourite.

    Cream Cheese Toast Variations

    • Blueberry – Top with blueberries, honey, chia seeds and mint.
    • Peach – Top with sliced peaches, honey, toasted pistachios and cinnamon.
    • Mango – Top with sliced mango, honey, toasted coconut and toasted almonds.
    • Greek – For savoury toast, top with sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, crumbled feta and chives.
    • Salmon – Top with smoked salmon, capers and fresh dill.

Making this toast for Valentine’s Day or someone you love? Cut the strawberries into heart shapes. So fun!
