Homemade Latte in White Mug Topped with Cinnamon

Do you remember the first time you tried a latte? Way, way back in my early 20’s, when I had my children’s clothing business, my husband and I stopped at a coffee shop on our way home from a business meeting. It was a longtime dream of mine to sell my designs at a boutique in the city, and the owner had just agreed to carry a large part of my collection. Needless to say, we were elated (and a bit relieved). So, instead of heading straight home, we decided to celebrate with a fancy coffee.

It’s funny looking back on it now. That coffee shop was Starbucks and it was the first time either of us had ever tried a latte or cappuccino. Spending that much on two coffees was a big splurge for us.

To this day, that moment has stuck with me. I can picture the green velvet chairs we sat on with rustic coffee table between, oversized mugs we slowly sipped from, all while listening to the coffee house music playing in the background. It felt a bit surreal.

Maybe that’s why I have a fondness for lattes to this day. That, and the fact that they taste so darn good!

Quote by Howard Schultz - I was taken by the power that savouring a simple cup of coffee can have to connect people and create community.

I think coffee has a way of bringing us together and creating special moments. I’m sure you can recall many moments in your life when this was true. Getting together for coffee is so much more than simply drinking coffee. Agree?

With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to share some delicious lattes and other hot milk drinks you can create at home. Whether you have a fancy Milk Café or steam wand on an espresso machine like I do, or simply use a handheld frother, these recipes are sure to satisfy. Which one will you try first?

What Else Can You Make with a Milk Frother?

Golden Milk

Another hot drink I enjoy in the afternoon or evening is steamed and frothed oat milk (1½ cups) with honey (¾ teaspoon), turmeric (¾ teaspoon), cinnamon (¼ teaspoon) and black pepper (pinch). Let it steep for at least 5 minutes before sipping.

It’s quick to make, helps with inflammation, and is so tasty. You should give it a try!

Sometimes I mix it up a bit with coconut milk, cardamom, maple syrup and ginger. Play around with ingredients until you find a blend you love.

Steamed Cinnamon Milk

It doesn’t get any simpler than heated and frothed milk of your choice, natural sweetener, cinnamon and pure vanilla extract. I love this caffeine-free drink as an afternoon snack, especially on chilly days. Again, come up with your own measurements to suit your taste preference.
