Ingredients
filtered water
medium navel oranges (see notes)
ice
fresh mint, rosemary or basil (optional)
Instructions
Fill a large glass canister or pitcher with cold filtered water (leaving room at top).
Cut washed oranges into ¼-inch slices and gently drop into water (see notes).
Cover and place in refrigerator for at least 2 hours or up to 3 days.
Serve over fresh ice in glass or small jar. As an option, garnish with fresh mint, rosemary or basil.
Notes
Be sure to start with a clean glass pitcher. Glass is non-reactive and will not release any harmful chemicals into the water over time.
How many oranges should I use? The ratio of oranges to water comes down to personal preference. For 12 cups (about 2.8 litres or 96 ounces) of water, I typically use 2 medium navel oranges.
Can I use other types of oranges? Yes! Use your favourite, such as blood oranges, Valencia, Cara Cara and more.
What else can I use to infuse water? Washed cucumber, strawberries, grapes, blueberries, lemon, lime, mint and basil are some of my other favourites. Experiment with different fruits, vegetables and herbs until you land on a combination you love.
How long will infused water keep? It's best to consume within 2 days for optimal flavour, but within 3 to be safe. Always add ice if sitting out at room temperature (or outdoor party).
Can I eat the fruit? You bet. However, some may become mushy the longer it infuses. In that case, you may prefer to use a glass pitcher with strainer lid.
