Happy 2015! After a long holiday break, I’m back with renewed energy and a fresh perspective. I’m feeling very optimistic about the year ahead, you?
After being knocked off my feet with one of the worst flus of my life Christmas 2013, it forced me take a step back and realize just how precious the holiday season really is. The most difficult part of it all was missing out on connecting with family and friends. Something I, unfortunately, had been taking for granted.
So, while I was planning my last-quarter blogging schedule a few months ago, I intentionally crossed off the final two weeks of my calendar. Big X’s through each day. I also made sure to slow down and take good care of myself in the month of December.
Was it difficult to walk away? You bet! Sometimes my type A personality takes over and is only pleased if I’m highly productive each and every day. Some days I just want to be a B, C or D. Anything but A.
But I’ve come to realize in the past year or so that life is a marathon, not a sprint.
I still believe in setting goals with specified timeframes, but I’m remembering more and more to enjoy the journey along the way.
Taking time to nurture myself means I’m better able to relish in those special life moments and learn from those that are not.
Perhaps turning 40 was the wake up call I needed too. When you’re a busy-bee, you seldom take the time to reflect on your day, or even your week. You end up in places that don’t feel right and you’re not sure how you got there. Sometimes months go by before you snap out of it. It’s hard to find your way back.
CLARITY is what I was yearning for, without even knowing it, over the past year.
Clarity in regards to who I am, what I want, what’s truly important and why I do what I do.
Sounds deep, but it isn’t.
It’s about intention.
It’s about getting back to basics and listening.
Honing in on what resonates with me. Not being the same for sameness sake.
Saying “no” when it doesn’t FEEL right. Letting go of fear. And knowing the difference between the two.
Making decisions that are right for ME and my family (that may not be quite right for YOU and yours).
It’s what makes us unique.
It’s about decorating your house with yellow even when it’s out. It’s about painting your hardwood floors white ’cause you love that look. It’s about eating vegetarian because that’s what your body is telling you. It’s about sharing posts from the heart.
It’s about embracing differences. Something we can only do when we’re clear about who we really are…
If you haven’t thought much about your word of the year for 2015, it isn’t too late. Sometimes we wait for a new year or certain birthday to finally make changes, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
For me, I’ve learned that each moment is an opportunity for change. Remember to pause. You’re never too far down a path to course correct. Take that step in a new direction.
As I embark on my journey to gain CLARITY, my wish is to inspire you to do the same. Let’s find out more about ourselves together this year.
