Designer Challenge: Which Sofa? {Part One}

In this version of the Designer Challenge, Alicia was given 3 sofa options to select from and asked to design a space around one of them.

Welcome to another edition of the Designer Challenge! It’s been a while since we’ve seen a room designed around a piece, and this time it’s all about sofas!

Today, I have the lovely Alicia from Keep It Beautiful Designs here. Alicia and her husband are currently renovating their 1920’s home in Ottawa, Ontario. Be sure to check out the impressive before and after photos of the front hall, living room, dining room and more. So gorgeous!

Let’s take a look at the 3 sofa options I selected for this challenge and what Alicia did with one of them…

Alicia From Keep It Beautiful

Hi everyone! I’m Alicia, an Interior Decorator, mom of 3 kids and married to Mr. Fix-It. I love a good home design challenge and believe that all spaces, big or small can be beautiful. I’m thrilled to be part of Shauna’s Designer Challenge and had a great time coming up with this room.

I was given these three couches to choose from. They’re all beautiful, it was a tough decision!

Designer Challenge Sofa Options

1. Charleston Sofa – ZGallerie
2. Sabine – Room and Board
3. Emmanuelle – Montauk Sofa

Which Sofa?

I chose the Charleston sofa from ZGallerie and just love it! The clean lines, tufted back, nailhead trim is oh-so-fabulous. It looks comfortable and is so glam at the same time.

Design Board Details

The beauty about this couch is that it can feel glamorous without having to go over-the-top in accessories. I grounded the couch with a trellis rug and added these floral and geometric throw pillows. Don’t be afraid to mix your patterns.

I really liked how the abstract art pulls out the colours in the throw pillows and provides a statement on the wall.

As soon as I chose this couch I knew I wanted to pair it with a great mirrored side table. A great way to have high-end looking storage.

A lantern and this ink blue ottoman gives a pop of blue and a place for cocktails and appetizers!

I would choose Benjamin Moore Stonington Grey for the walls. Heaven!

Thanks so much for asking me to do the Designer Challenge Shauna. It was super fun!

Thanks, Alicia! I adore that sofa and the color scheme you chose for the living room. Fun and fresh- perfect for spring!

Now tell me, is this the sofa you’d pick to design a room around or would you opt for one of the others? I’d love to know which one catches your eye.

Come back tomorrow to see the sofa Sabrina selected and what she did with it. I promise it won’t disappoint!

  1. Love that couch!  I just used something very similar for a client’s design board!  I was hoping to use Z Galleries but it was too long….

That abstract water color is great and I love it for your color inspiration.

Now off to check out your renovations!

  2. I liked the fabric choices and the furniture too – that would really look gorgeous together!

  3. Beautiful fabrics and colours! And that is one gorgeous sofa. (But it would get stained too quickly with me around!).
