Schoolhouse Condos – A Unique Experience in Fernie, BC

Hello everyone! I’ve been playing hooky for the past two weeks enjoying some quality time with family and friends. After experiencing a few crazy months leading into summer, we decided to get away and disconnect from the techie world as much as possible. Of course, we watched a bit of the Olympics and I couldn’t help reading a couple of my favorite blogs here and there, but otherwise it’s been low key.

We started our trip at our friends’ cottage in Sandpoint, Idaho. It involved quite a bit of boating, playing games and a little relaxing. We then made our way back home, stopping in Fernie, BC for the last leg of our trip.

When deciding what to do over the two weeks, I knew a lot of driving was out of the question if our intent was to arrive home relaxed. Our original thought was to make our way deeper into the US past Sandpoint, but the trek home would be very long.

After searching for places to stay, I came across beautiful condos in Fernie that were converted from an old school, called 901 Fernie.

The condo we stayed in was a 2 bedroom unit on the main floor of the schoolhouse. I love how they kept the original exposed brick and soaring windows.

Although many of the architectural details of the condo are old or made to look that way, all of the modern bath and kitchen amenities are included.

They’ve also added ample storage room in the bedrooms. Being able to hang clothes is so much better than living out of a suitcase.

We really enjoyed the space and are thinking about going back this winter for a little ski break.

Have you found any unique places to stay at while on vacation? Have you taken any time to relax and recharge this summer?

Cheers,

  1. I noticed your were MIA ;-) …and yes, I missed seeing your posts pop up! But I’m always so happy to read when a blogger has taken a break. It’s amazing how much recharge a little time away can bring. I love the idea of the old school house turned condo – what a fun place to stay! Welcome back, BTW!!!

    1. I’m flattered that you noticed! We’ll still be taking a few days off, but I’m back to reading blogs, including yours. It was great to have a break and find some new inspiration. Hope you enjoy the remainder of summer!
