Designer Challenge: Which Sofa? {Part One}

Welcome to another edition of the Designer Challenge! It’s been a while since we’ve seen a room designed around a piece, and this time it’s all about sofas!

Today, I have the lovely Alicia from Keep It Beautiful Designs here. Alicia and her husband are currently renovating their 1920′s home in Ottawa, Ontario. Be sure to check out the impressive before and after photos of the front hall, living room, dining room and more. So gorgeous!

Let’s take a look at the 3 sofa options I selected for this challenge and what Alicia did with one of them…

Alicia- Keep It BeautifulHi everyone! I’m Alicia, an Interior Decorator, mom of 3 kids and married to Mr. Fix-It. I love a good home design challenge and believe that all spaces, big or small can be beautiful. I’m thrilled to be part of Shauna’s Designer Challenge and had a great time coming up with this room.

I was given these three couches to choose from. They’re all beautiful, it was a tough decision!

Designer Challenge: Which Sofa?

1. Charleston Sofa - ZGallerie
2. Sabine – Room&Board
3. Emmanuelle – Montauk Sofa

I chose the Charleston Sofa from ZGallerie and just love it! The clean lines, tufted back, nailhead trim is oh-so-fabulous. It looks comfortable and is so glam at the same time.

Is the Pouf Here to Stay?

As I look at the changing colors outside, I would definitely say fall is here. Don’t you just love the way the sun shines a little differently this time of year, and every morning brings with it a new landscape? Having such a gorgeous weekend, I was able to finally get my front door painted (more on that later this week) and I started to do some fall decorating. Although my focus was on the exterior spaces of our home, I couldn’t help but notice one fall decor item in particular popping up all over- POUFS.

Have you seen October’s issue of Canadian House & Home magazine? The living room on the cover is from Linda Reeves’ latest showhouse, and I just adore the neutral palette and subtle fall decorating. Notice the poufs that lead your eye into the room? The pattern and texture they bring to the space is gorgeous.

Although poufs have been around for a while, I’m finding the choices of shape, size and fabric have evolved. What once was limited to a Moroccan or bohemian look, has now been adopted by almost every style. Look how perfectly this neutral pouf complements this classic living room.

Welcome to Part Two of the Designer Challenge- mirror edition! I’m thrilled to welcome Nyla of Nyla Free Designs. I first met Nyla at Kimberley Seldon’s Business of Design school and I was immediately impressed with her sense of style and friendly demeanor. I love reading her contributions to Dabble Magazine and always look forward to her design tips and adventures on her blog. They’re always top notch and on the pulse of what’s going on. I can’t wait for you to see what she did! (If you missed Part One, you can find out what Ashley did here.)

Designer Challenge: Which Mirror? {Part One}

It’s time once again for our Designer Challenge. This time I presented three fabulous mirror options and asked each designer to select her favorite and tell us what she’d do with it. First up, I’m thrilled to introduce Ashley of The Handmade Home. Ashley’s blog is one of the first I started regularly reading a while back. I love her philosophy of being passionate about what YOU love and not getting caught up in what others will think. I think this shines through in her unique decorating style that has me intrigued and always coming back for more! Be sure to check out her Bungalow Revamps for inspiration.

Designer Challenge: Which Chair? {Part Two}

Welcome to Part Two of the Designer Challenge- chair edition! I’m thrilled to welcome Anna of Directions Not Included. I discovered Anna quite recently when I read  ’My Favorite Things’ gift exchange she did with our mutual blogging friend Tiffany of Living Savvy. I knew I wanted to get to know this gal when I saw the care and detail she put into selecting just the right items to send. Since then, I’ve been reading posts about her home remodelling projects, transforming what she calls the UGHLY to pretty. I can’t wait for you to see what she did! (If you missed Part One, be sure to catch up on the three chair options and find out what Shandra put together.)

Anna from Directions Not Included
Hi there! I’m Anna from Directions Not Included. My husband and I are busy renovating an original 1950s Florida home so I’ve been documenting our renovation, decorating and crafting projects along the way. I’m excited that Shauna asked me to be part of this designer challenge. Designer challenge? Me? I’m not exactly confident in my decorating skills but I’m flattered. It might have made me blush when I got the email ;)
When Shauna sent through the choices for this month’s challenge I instantly was drawn to the Blake Grey Wash Lounge Chair. It seemed like the perfect fit for a nice sun room or sitting area with big open windows.
