Designer Challenge: Which Outdoor Seating? {Reader Edition}

If you remember about a month ago, with the suggestion of one of my readers, I opened up the Designer Challenge to Satori Readers. Fortunately, Olioboard wanted to join in and offered to award our top three picks a 6-month upgrade to their Pro version. How fun!

Readers were given three outdoor seating options, including the Catalina Lounge Chair, Geometric Pouf and Nantucket Chair. They were asked to create a mood board using one of them.

To help select the top three mood board entries, I enlisted the help of two past Designer Challenge participants, Nancy from Marcus Design and Jackie from Teal and Lime. I just love these outdoor spaces sent in by Sheila, Shantelle and Tiffany!

Calling All Readers: Be Part of the Designer Challenge!

A while back, I received an email from Carmen, a reader who looks forward to the Designer Challenge every month. I started this series back in November and it has been one of the most popular reads on the blog. Basically, I select three furniture or decor items within the same category, say mirrors, and the guest designers create a room or vignette around the item of their choice.

Up to this point, design bloggers have been the participants of the Designer Challenge, but Carmen proposed opening it up to readers. I thought it was a fantastic idea!

With the season of summer on my mind, I’ve selected three options for outdoor seating:

The first chair, called the Catalina, comes from Crate and Barrel. It’s hard to believe this is an outdoor chair given its plush look and comfort factor.

I Pledge to Get Organized! {first purge of the year}

Happy Sunday! How is your new year shaping up? Despite having the dreaded flu for a few days (hence the sparse blog posts) I managed to go through my son’s room with him yesterday and remove anything he no longer wants, fits or needs. We’ve been doing this for years, so he knows the routine. As long as we stay on task, it goes by quickly. However, my husband sometimes feels the need to come in and start playing around with stuff (this time it was bouncy balls) and it really slows things down. But, I have to admit that his sense of humor always keeps the mood up.

{via Real Simple}

To tell you the truth, my son is probably better at purging than I am. I think he learned at a young age that if something is just going to sit in a closet collecting dust, why not pass it onto someone who can use it and enjoy it. I, on the other hand, can occasionally get caught up on the “great grandpa gave you that coin juke box” even though it no longer works and there’s battery acid leaking out the back- yikes! And I cannot believe how fast teenage boys grow! We just went through his clothes before school started and ended up with another large bag full. I think the boys we pass the clothes down to will be happy!

If you’re wanting to get more organized this year, I wrote an article for My 365 Magazine last spring that will walk you through the process. In addition, my friend Nancy over at Marcus Design has written an entire post titled {6 tips to toss, restore, organize…} which was inspired by the book The Happiness Project. If you haven’t read this book, it is one of my favorites! I think they’re even making a TV show about it now.

Designer Challenge: Which Bench? {Part Two}

Welcome to Part Two of the Designer Bench Challenge! I’m thrilled to welcome the fabulous Nancy of Marcus Design. Find out what she did! (You can catch up on Part One here.)

Hello lovely Satori readers! First and foremost I must thank Shauna for including me in this wonderful and fun post. I had a great time putting my bit together :) I must say that it was hard to choose only one bench, but in the end the Hollywood glam-lover in me chose the zebra print Oly Studio Hillary Bench.

I have been in love with the designs of the talented Jennifer Ferreira, and this bench reminded me of two of her fabulous vignettes:
