Designing Women Interview at Signature Style Magazine

Yesterday we were blasted with a huge blizzard that is still underway, but has managed to slow down a bit. I decided to put the plans I had on hold for today and possibly pull out my sewing machine and make a few new pillow covers instead. There’s no way I’m bundling up and heading out there!

Right now I feel like we’re in between seasons so I’m not ready to completely switch my decor over to spring. Instead, I think a few gradual changes will help shake off this wintery feeling that seems to be hanging on (someone needs to tell Old Man Winter it’s time to go!).

On another note, today I’m excited to be over at Signature Style Magazine sharing a bit about my design philosophy, how I got started in design, what a typical day is like for me, and a bit more. I’d love to see you there! Author Shandra Ward is a talented interior and event designer with over 20 years experience. Her work has been featured on HGTV, Houzz, Hostess with the Mostess, and more.

Organizing With Living Savvy + Project Crunch Time

I have a lot of pep in my step. Today we’re supposed to hit the double digits (in the 50′s for my southern readers) and that’s a big deal. I equate warm temperatures with snow melting, bulbs finally having a chance to start their growing process, lightening and brightening my decorating, and being one step closer to turning my project focus to the outdoors. I know that old man winter will still have a few kicks at the cat, so until he finally parts ways, I’m pushing myself to finish up some projects I’ve left hanging for the past couple months (no more shiny objects for me). Hmm…where to start?

{via 79 Ideas}

One of the projects I started a couple months ago was getting my teenage son’s room better organized. We weeded out a tonne of stuff and figured out what we needed to purchase, but that’s as far as we got. This weekend I’m going to focus on finding storage bins, hangers and a few other items to finish up that project. I’d also like to choose a paint color for our ensuite which is in desperate need of a freshening.

If you could use a little inspiration getting your home organized, my friend Tiffany over at Living Savvy is dedicating the month of March to tackling her own space. I’ve been following along and today I’m sharing some of my organizing tips at the end of her post. I’d love for you to check them out!

If you find that paper clutter (mail, flyers, school papers, etc.) continue to be a clutter problem for you, be sure to grab a copy of the guide I wrote called Conquering the Paper Trail. It’s a system I use on a daily basis that takes the guesswork out of how to deal with the flood of schtuff. Get your free download by entering your info in the top right hand box of this site. (Oh, and I’ll never spam you and your information is kept private, as mentioned in our general policies. The Design for Living ezine is sent out only once per quarter.)

Guest Post for Nikki’s Nacs + Powder Rooms I Adore

Today I’m excited to be guest posting over at Nikki’s Nacs. Nikki has a really cool series called 2 Bills 2 Blow, where you’re given $200 to spend on any decor items for your home (well…not actually, but that would be pretty fantastic). I have to say that spending imaginary money was almost as much fun as the real thing!

I’ve been following this series for a few months and I’m always amazed by how far everyone can stretch their money. I love the collection Jackie from Teal and Lime put together to spice up her living room.

One of the projects on my update list for 2012 is our powder room and I thought it would be the perfect place to focus on for this spending challenge. It’s currently a blank white box (ho-hum) and is screaming out for a little color, texture and sparkle!

Come see what I bought.

Guest Post for Living Savvy + Spray Paint Makeovers

Today I’m excited to be guest posting over at Living Savvy. If you remember a while back, Tiffany was a guest on my Designer Challenge and I was thrilled when she asked me to be part of her Spray Painter Anonymous series. I just love her sense of humor and amazing style!

I’ve been following this series for a while and I’m amazed by the transformations each and every time. I’d love for you to see what I did with a little spray paint and a few other supplies to make over a (well, let’s just say U-G-L-Y) tray. Come take a gander.

Here are some other impressive transformations using spray paint:
