Living Room Refresh for Spring

Today, I’m excited to show you my latest e-design project. After receiving Barbara’s list of wants and needs, as well as looking through several snapshots of her living room, I was able to pinpoint what she was looking for.

The Details

  • Drawn towards traditional styling.
  • Favorite furniture resources are Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn.
  • Most comfortable living with shades of cream, yellow and pink.
  • She and her husband basically live in the room.
  • Loves everything in the room, but wants the look pulled together.

Decorating Plan

Before, Barbara’s living room had great foundational pieces, but it lacked personality. I suggested keeping the space fairly neutral by adding different textures, such as grasscloth wallpaper, a sisal area rug and chunky accessories. Adding a few more yellow accessories will bring the space to life, and will complement the existing elements in other parts of her home to maintain flow.

Here’s what we were starting with. Pretty good, right?

Along with the mood board, I created a plan for updating the window treatments, addressing the fireplace, styling the built-ins, and more. Here are some of the inspiration photos I included to demonstrate the direction I suggest taking the room in…

Sabrina (2)

Hey all, Sabrina from Pink Little Notebook here!

Today, I’m so excited to share my top pick for Designer Challenge: Which Sofa (part two). There is nothing I love more than decorating a room and putting my own spin on it so when Shauna presented these three options, I nearly died. How beautiful are these sofas?! (sources here)

When it came down to choosing from these three options, I was stumped. Deep down, I’m a vintage-type gal and naturally I’m drawn to tufted sofas but that Montauk Emmanuella sofa (option 3)—O.M.G. I’m in love with the gorgeous curves and the lushness of the cushions. It’s the type of sofa you just want to make yourself comfortable in. So yes, Montauk Emmanuella, you won me over.

I immediately began envisioning a well designed, elegant room. Something fun yet comfortable. Something old but modern. Something soft but bold. I’m definitely all over the place when it comes to styles. That’s why I love mixing a little of bit of everything. Here is what I came up with.

Designer Challenge: Which Sofa? {Part One}

Welcome to another edition of the Designer Challenge! It’s been a while since we’ve seen a room designed around a piece, and this time it’s all about sofas!

Today, I have the lovely Alicia from Keep It Beautiful Designs here. Alicia and her husband are currently renovating their 1920′s home in Ottawa, Ontario. Be sure to check out the impressive before and after photos of the front hall, living room, dining room and more. So gorgeous!

Let’s take a look at the 3 sofa options I selected for this challenge and what Alicia did with one of them…

Alicia- Keep It BeautifulHi everyone! I’m Alicia, an Interior Decorator, mom of 3 kids and married to Mr. Fix-It. I love a good home design challenge and believe that all spaces, big or small can be beautiful. I’m thrilled to be part of Shauna’s Designer Challenge and had a great time coming up with this room.

I was given these three couches to choose from. They’re all beautiful, it was a tough decision!

Designer Challenge: Which Sofa?

1. Charleston Sofa - ZGallerie
2. Sabine – Room&Board
3. Emmanuelle – Montauk Sofa
I chose the Charleston Sofa from ZGallerie and just love it! The clean lines, tufted back, nailhead trim is oh-so-fabulous. It looks comfortable and is so glam at the same time.

Valentine’s Day Colorful Gifts for Her

Valentine’s Day is on Friday and I’m loving all the shades of pink and red I’m seeing in stores and online. Thank goodness the colors of love are bright and cheery in the midst of winter, wouldn’t you say? This year I made heart-printed treat bags for my husband and son that I’m going to fill with some of their favorite things. I also plan on adding some colorful flowers to our table and making something special for dinner.

Although we like to keep it simple around here and forgo expensive gifts, it’s always fun to take a look at what’s out there, whether it’s specifically Valentine’s Day merchandise or simply colors that remind me of the special day. Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite finds I’m sure every girl will love!

Keeping the Winter Blues Out of Your Home

Yesterday, another snow storm hit, and I was so happy I didn’t have to leave the house. This winter, we’ve had more than our fair share of snow, which means cold temperatures and gloomy days- YUCK! To make it even worse, I’m one of those people who’s cold most of the time (in the literal sense) and takes forever to warm up. Thankfully, a snow-covered ground eventually leads to intensely sunny days, making it feel like spring is just around the corner (cue happy dance!). For those other dreary days, when the “winter blues” are most likely to set in, I have my own personal bag of tricks to ensure they never have a chance…

Starting in January, I treat myself to potted bulbs and other small plants in bright colors to place around the house. Usually, I pick these up at the grocery store since they only cost a few dollars each, but last for several weeks. Most times, I simply plop the unattractive plastic pot in a ceramic one and top with a bit of moss. Easy peasy!

When I’m ahead of the game, I start several pots of indoor bulbs early in the year so I can enjoy a bit of color and green up until the weather turns warm.

For Christmas, my husband bought me an ultrasonic nebulizer from Saje. It’s a heat-free essential oil diffuser that purifies the air and releases moisture. Basically, it makes the air better to breathe and gives off an amazing aroma.

So far, my favorite diffuser blend is Liquid Sunshine which smells citrus-y and reminds me of chewable vitamin C. It’s part of the “Happiness” collection, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I’m drawn to that particular scent at the moment.
