Summer Entertaining Al Fresco Style

Al fresco dining in the summer can’t be beat. Check out these ideas for setting a coastal outdoor table in turquoise, yellow and white.

With the onset of warmer weather, we find ourselves dining outside as much as possible. One of my favourite things to do over the summer months is entertain outside. I find it more casual and everyone just seems to relax and have a great time.

Usually we start the party in the kitchen with beverages and appetizers, but we always dine al fresco (weather permitting). As soon as it turns a bit chilly, we sit around a fire on our stone patio well in to the evening. It’s summer perfection!

Al Fresco Table Setting Ideas

We purchased our round table and chairs a few years ago, which work well for the size of our upper deck. (If you noticed the chairs are missing their wooden arms, it’s because I’m currently re-finishing them.)

This year I wanted to brighten my outdoor decor up a bit, incorporating blue and yellow along with the existing grey.

Casual Summer Entertaining with Mason Jars

While shopping for new summer dining items, I came across the robin’s egg blue placemats that can easily be wiped down, as well as the cheery paper napkins in a chevron/ikat pattern. They were the jumping off point for my colour scheme this season.

Mason Jars as Water Glasses

To carry on with the casual theme, I decided to use simple mason jars as drinking glasses.

Potted Rosemary as Table Centerpiece for Casual Summer Entertaining

Potted herbs or flowers always make an easy and inexpensive centerpiece.

Casual Outdoor Table Setting with Starfish

I also like to include a bit of the beach, so I opted for these starfish. I like the coastal feel it adds to the table.

Turquoise and Yellow Summer Table Setting Outdoors

The potted calla lilies surrounding the table incorporate the yellow and extend the vignette. I love the tropical vibe they add.

Candlelight for Outdoor Dining - Glass Tea Light Holders

And, finally, the citrine tea light holders create that extra bit of shimmer to the table and provide ambient lighting as the sun begins to set.
